My New Vivofit Jr 2

Hi there,
Today I am going to be talking about my new Garmin Vivofit Jr 2 watch which is a fitness watch that was made to encourage kids to do more exercise. I have had this watch for a week now and have found it very useful. It has loads of cool features on it as well as all the features a normal watch would have, these are some of its features:

• A step counter
• A fitness counter (which tells you how many minutes of exercise you have done that day
• A chore list were you can earn coins by doing chores around the house
• A system were you can cash in coins to earn for rewards
• A sleep counter 
• An app which can give you detail on sleep, activities etc.
• A game were you can only move level when you have done your 60 min of activity each day
• An alarm system 
• It is completely water proof so you can actually swim in it
• It has up to a one year long battery
• It has a timer/ a stopwatch
• A two minute challange

and you can have all your families watches attached to the one device.

Today I'm going to be talking about the #BeKind campaign, which is inspired by the book "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. 

Wonder is the story of a boy with a disfigured face who gets bullied a lot because of what he looks like.  My favourite quote from the book is "You can't blend in when you were born to stand out."  The book has also been made into a movie.  Watch the trailer here:

The #BeKind campaign is asking children around the World to CHOOSE KIND.  Here are some small ways we can all show kindness:

Engineers Week

Hi there,
As you probably know it was Engineers Week last week so I decided to do a little experiment/challenge using spaghetti and marshmallows. The challenge is to build the tallest structure possible in a set time using only spaghetti and marshmallows.  Afterwards, I had to perform the 'earthquake' test on a tray of jelly.  This is what happened...

The Big Snow

Hi there,
In case you didn’t know Ireland has just experienced it’s biggest snow fall since 1947 and I am going to be talking about how much it impacted my family and I. To start off with I had a great time in the snow but there are of course other things that were a nuisance, such as;

All the shops were closed ☃
Our water stopped working for two days 💩
Our heating stopped working 😨
We couldn’t drive on the roads for a few days🚗
It was very awkward to go outside due to all the clothing I had to wear

However having said all that it was the best fun ever. I spent hours sledding with my friends, had a lot of snow ball fights and built a massive snowman ☃❄🌨

This is how snow forms:Snow Formation   This particular snow storm was called Beast From The East because the cold wind originated from Siberia.

My First Day

Today is my first official day of homeschooling and I found it quite weird not going to school yet to be still working. So far I have really enjoyed it and today I have done...

• Work it Out Maths
• I watched RTE Children’s News
• Music Practise (tunes for my grupa ceoil)
• Online Maths Practise
• History (The Holocaust)
• I started my English novel Gangsta Granny by David Walliams
• I learned a bit about banking and used the Cash Lodgment Kiosk

I have a bit more work to do and then I will be going swimming and to play badminton.

Creative Writing

Hi,
Today I went to an event at my local library on creative writing with an author called Sinéad O'Hart who wrote the book ''The Eye Of The North''. We did lots of interesting things including short stories,creative thinking/writing,brainstorming and lots lots more.I met up with loads of different people all bookworms like me and also had a chat with the author who said I could be a great writer in the future.After the event I went and bought the book and asked the author to sign it which she did. I also got a photo with her which I will insert now.

                                               

Why I started homeschooling

Hi,
I'm in 5th class and I haven't liked school for the past 3 years for various reasons.  Because of how I felt about school and after speaking with my parents, we decided it would be best if I tried out homeschooling for 3 months to see if I would like it or not.

I'm hoping to use this blog to share my experiences, activities and learning.  I'm looking forward to having more flexibility with my school life and trying new ways of learning.  I think even if I end up going back to my school for 6th class, it will have been great for me to have this experience so I know what a homeschooler's life is like.  The only thing I think now that I might miss about my school is my friends but I plan to keep in touch with them.

I hope to meet up with other homeschoolers in my area to enjoy some social activities together.  I have lots of ideas and plans for the next three months including travel abroad which I'll blog about and projects that I will speak about in the future.

I have already identified lots of different apps and websites that I can use for education and I will share those with you very soon.  To give you an idea of what you can expect from my typical learning day, I plan to be doing the following;

• Irish, French and Spanish languages
• Science experiments
• History & Geography projects
• English book club
• English creative writing
• Maths 
• Cookery
• Typing and Coding
• Sport & Physical Activities
• Art & Crafts
• Animal Care

 I hope this blog will help me develop my creative writing and computer skills.
